I'd have to check to see which graphics driver version is on these systems, but it can't be that old. I think those get updated by Windows update and when I image the laptops I use the Dell deployment drivers which uses whatever the latest is that they include on their site I know that's usually a little older than what Intel has released.

The failure to resume thing seems to have been resolved. I think one of the users with the current issue had it at the beginning but the 8. The anti-virus thought is kind of a shot in the dark, just based on some recent things I saw with another program installation as I referenced before. The ones that we got in our first batch a couple of months ago had to get updated, but from what I can tell the ones that came with our most recent order came with the firmware update already applied since when I have gone to update that the utility says it's already running the latest firmware.

We are currently on call with Trend and we narrowed down to some ACL component in the Trend Micro Firewall which is causing this issue. Hope it helps. I have exactly the same issue. Seconding raimis' request. Same problem, removing Trand Micro fixed the problem, but my company requires Trend Micro to use its network.

I've seen fewer issues and have not had as many complaints about this recently. We are now running Windows 10 on most of our devices. It could be that the Windows version upgrade, updated drivers from Dell, or program updates from Trend Micro or a combination of those things have helped.

I've got an issue that's come up recently at work and I've done about all I can think of to figure out how to resolve it, so I'm throwing this out to the all the experts here to see if anyone can suggest something I haven't tried. We have a number of Dell Latitude laptops with Dell D docks that have frequent freezing issues when docking and un-docking. The issue seems to be related to programs not properly switching network connectivity from wired to wireless and back.

All of the laptops are fully updated with the latest DisplayLink dock drivers, latest BIOS, and running Windows 10 Enterprise and running with all updates. The docks also have the latest firmware. Unfortunately I cannot find any Windows event logs that show anything specific and the freezing does not get logged either. We normally end up having to hard power down the laptops and do a complete reboot.

The driver updates seem to have decreased the frequency of the problems on some systems, but has not solved it. One other thing that appears to exacerbate the issue is some of the users that use Microsoft Teams seem to have more frequent issues. I'm drawing a blank as to where to go from all the diagnosing I've done so far, so if anyone has any thoughts I welcome the input.

The mouse might still respond at least for a while but normally from what I've seen the desktop goes white and completely unresponsive or the open programs just appear to be grayed out.

A couple of times I've managed to connect to the PC via a remote command line or powershell session if the wifi actually connects or if the ethernet reconnects after being reconnected to the dock. I've managed to recover from this maybe once where I could kill explorer and some other hung processes and get the desktop to come back. If I try to launch task manager or anything else locally typically I don't get any response.

Trying to force the laptops to sleep and then resume does nothing. Until the latest DisplayLink driver update I had a couple of other laptops that occasionally wouldn't resume when docked after they were left for a while.

That was completely random and happened anywhere from every day to a week or more. That issue seems to have gone away. I'm not sure if it has any bearing on this issue, but I know that the Trend Micro client does have at least some sort of interaction with the network stack in Windows since I recently had to deal with an issue with that program that was causing a Cicso AnyConnect upgrade to fail because it was blocking something having to do with installing the virtual network interface driver at least that's what appeared to be happening.

Oh, we also have a GPO that doesn't allow the Wifi to connect if there is an active wired connection so the wifi has to connect after the dock is disconnected. A couple of users have managed to all but solve the issue by just not using the wired connection on their docks and relying completely on wifi. On having white screens, is that only from the dock, or also on the host laptop display? If everything goes down, on Windows 10, the DisplayLink driver is unlikely to be the root cause. Should we not respond to a frame request or anything within 10 seconds, we are terminated and you get a WUDFHost dump file useful for analysis.

We are then respawn. You would then see a temporary loss of screen and recovery. If you crash 5 times in 20 minutes or something like that , Windows ignores you down until next reboot. If that is linked with the action of docking, we can look at USB host controller or the graphics part. If you leave the machine, does it end up getting a blue screen? On that version of Windows, and that dock, with driver 8. This means we blend the mouse with the desktop in the docking station.

As the mouse works, at least for a while, this tells me the dock is not unresponsive. Do you know if the machine is low in memory when things start to seize up?

Windows creates a new adapter based on connection path and device serial number. So if you move the dock, or if you use another dock of same model, it will create a new driver instance. Reports we've had were more on McAfee than Trend Micro, but that could be because of market share. I'd welcome your feedback on usefulness.
